Cathy Jourdan (born May 23, 1955) is an American author/screenwriter born in Miami, Florida.

Cathy's full name is Catherine Melissa Jourdan (maiden name: Kimberland). She grew up in a variety of places because her father was an enlisted man in the Navy. When she was young, she was in awe of the big world around her. Unlike many of her friends who were so sad when their fathers’ were transferred, she was always ready to move on to the next adventure. While actually quite poor by anyone’s standards, her life was very full and she never felt it.

By the time Cathy was eighteen, her father had a retired and settled in Ohio. Working a shoe factory in Ohio, she met her husband of thirty-three years. This longer-than-usual stay in one place was taking its toll on her. She had been in Ohio for about 4 years, married and had a child, she became restless. With the blessing of her husband, she joined the Air Force and for the next ten years, she, her husband and now two sons travelled the world.

When her father became ill, she got out of the Air Force and she packed up her family and went back to Ohio. With limited job options in a small town, she took a job at a men’s medium security prison and it was here where she really began to focus on her writing. While she realized she didn’t want to make the prison her career, she did stay for ten years, working various jobs throughout that time. "I don’t have a death wish and that is sort of what you feel like when you work there. However, there is just so much inspiration for stories that it took a while to tear myself away."

In 2000 after winning the Governor's Award for Quality in Ohio, she went back to her birth state to soak up a little sun. When Hurricane Katrina rocked the Gulf Coast, Cathy and her family moved to Biloxi, MS to work disaster relief. Liking the area and the true southern hospitality, Cathy and her husband of 33 years, built a home and may just stay there a while. Her family in Ohio doubts that because they all know she’s a dreamer and a Gypsy who can’t stay put for more than ten years.

Cathy has been writing for many years. Writing both non-fiction and screenplays, her real passion is for the freedom of writing fiction in any form.
